French Blue Beauty

My heart is going pitter-pat for this one! I purchased this sideboard last week at the Habitat ReStore in Baltimore. It was marked down to $30, so I snatched it up and brought it home with me. I forgot to take a true before picture complete with ugly hardware, but hopefully this gives you an idea....

I sanded, primed, and painted it. I chose a soft French blue, but I knew I wanted it to be weathered and distressed looking. I didn't take a picture of the color before I antiqued it, but here is a dresser I did in the same color a while back.

Once the sideboard was painted, I distressed it, and weathered it with a dark gray stain which I brushed on, and then wiped off. I am so happy with the effect the stain gave the sideboard. I would love to keep this for my own dining room, but you can't keep them all, now can you? I really hope it finds its way to a nice home where it will be loved and appreciated as I would have done.

it's really pretty! How do you sell your stuff? Just curious!
and... do you sand or stain first? Aren't I full of questions tonight!

That is beautiful! I love the detail on the doors and aging it really accentuates that detail. And the clear, glass knobs are just the icing on the cake. Are you sure you can't make room for it in your own house ;)

What a beautiful piece... may I ask, did you use a primer under and a sealer over? I'm always worried about chips over time. But then that would be part of the 'distressed' look don't you think!
Can you tell me.. what would be the use of a 'glaze', clear with no color? I tried this and it did change the 'white' to a more flat finish... sorry about all the questions, but I'm new to distressing. Mine do not come out like yours!
Love it!
