Piece of Work Wednesday Link Party Number 10!

Starting the party a little early today as I may try to get to bed early tonight.  I am on day 3 of having no voice.  Let me just say that was some kind of 80's party I attended!!!  Can I just tell you how hard it is to discipline children when one cannot speak?  There has been a lot of hand-clapping and whistling for attention around here.  And the kids don't get it.... I will be upstairs, and Sawyer will keep yelling for me, forgetting that I cannot answer him, nor do I plan on running up and down the stairs all day just to answer a simple question.  I hope tomorrow I wake up able to speak!
Ok, now onto my transformation for the week.  It's not a dramatic change, but some pieces don't need that much.  I picked up this little guy off craigslist for $25.
I was thinking I might do something to it like this gorgeous little nightstand from Meredith at Welcome to the Heardmont.  It had a similar shape and I loved the two-toned look.

I took it outside and sanded it down entirely to the bare wood, which took a total of about 1 hour.  It had such beautiful wood, that I decided just to bring it up to date with new stain.  I used Minwax Provincial which is kind of a dark walnut.  I used a total of 2 coats of stain, and then gave it two coats of tung oil finish, waiting 24 hours between coats.  I had wanted to find hardware that had a bit more of a sleek and modern feel, but the holes were 3 1/2" apart and it was nearly impossible unless I wanted to spend $40 on just the hardware.  Um, no thanks.  So I opted to reuse the existing hardware, but it needed a cleaning.  I used the boil-it-in-baking-soda-in-a-pot-lined-with-aluminum-foil method  I was able to remove most of the marks and tarnish.  Here is the after.... I am pleased with how it turned out, a little more organic feeling and less glossy, and a little darker than it started.  It's heading to a new  home this weekend!

See, I don't paint them all!  I should mention that I don't normally refinish pieces, but mid century pieces with their nice straight lines are relatively easy. :)
Alright, your turn!  What project have you been working on?  Remember, FURNITURE ONLY!

It's beautiful Cassie! I know, I have a hard time painting the sleek mid-century pieces. Do you find they sell easily for you?

Thanks for hosting!

Hi Cassie, I was just linking away when I remembered your party was for furniture only...I guess that's why everyone was linking up furniture! Anyway, I'm not sure if a box is furniture so if you need to take it down you won't hurt my feelings (I'd do it if I knew how)....I'm so sorry.

I love the warm wood tones on this piece! You know how much I love paint, but this really works! Good decision!

I'm so excited to be participating in POWW after weeks of partying from the sidelines. :) Love the refinishing you did to that side table, Cassie. The wood looks smooth as buttah! Gorgeous!

You did a great job on this! I like the simple lines to it. It's a little different style than you normally do. Did you have fun with it? The wood is beautiful!

I love the wood tones! Nice that you didn't paint this one. Like you said, some pieces don't need it. Looks great! Thanks for hosting!

Cassie, I got nothin' :)
I love the nightstand! You made it go from looking plastic to real wood. You are so very talented! I will enjoy perusing all the entries.

Hi Cassie, thanks for the shout out on my nightstand re-do! I love how your piece turned out. I definitely have a soft spot for mid-century furniture. :) I'm working on a entry table/ buffet currently. Hope to have it done for next week's party!

Beautiful tray! I love things like that! The colour are perfect in there too! I am starting to introduce rustic pieces like that. I just love all the history and stories that they may carry! :) Have a wonderful weekend!!
