The Stripped Dresser Outcome

First of all, thank you sooooo much for all your feedback yesterday on the dresser.  If you can't remember what it looked like just click here
So, what did I do with it? Well, I didn't paint it.  I continued sanding some more of the primer white residue off of it.  But then I didn't like it as much as I had with more white splotches on it.  I know, weird.  So I went to my trusty stash of sample sized Cabot stains I bought a while ago from the Habitat ReStore.  I used a brush rather than a rag, and used both semi-solid water-based stains.  I started with one called "Milkweed" and brushed it on, following the grain of the wood.  Once that dried, it wasn't quite enough, so I added a layer of "Dark Gray" Stain.  I also sifted through my hardware stash and found some great vintage pulls, but they were a little too work, so I used a wire brush to clean them, and then brushed some of the gray stain over them.  It reminds me of a dresser that Shaunna of Perfectly Imperfect did that I just adored!!!  Here is the result of mine. I absolutely LOVE it!  I am not keeping it for those who asked, but DC is full of people with eclectic style, so hopefully it will find a new home soon!  Also, this morning when my husband helped me carry it out for a picture, he asked, "Why are you taking a picture of this one?"  Clearly, he thought it was not finished.  Some people just don't get it, do they? ;)

It also got an almost plummy undertone from the original brown stain, with the other layers.  I hope you love it like I do!  This dresser look was definitely accidentally achieved!

I think this just might be one of my favorites. I am in love with it! The finish is absolutely perfect for this little dresser - and the hardware is perfection as well. Oh my - what more can I say? I want it. :)

Ok, so I loved it before, when it was all destroyed, but I also LOVE this one too! Great job! I just may have to try this on something too!

Very cool! You should direct your husband to Wisteria to see the look of their pieces that you did a heck of a job emulating (and show him their prices!) The vintage hardware looks great on it, too! I'm sure someone will snatch it up.

I LOVE it, of course, but you already know that. ;-)

Looks really cool! Sometimes things turn out very different from what we expect. They turn out even better! ... Isn't that true of life in general!

Beautiful, Cassie! The vintage pulls are perfect. It could be in the Anthropologie catalog! I like those 2 front ball feet. I know you worked very hard on this piece.

Oooooh I LOVE it! Accident or not, this is the perfect finish for that dresser! And the pulls look like they were destined to reside on that dresser. I don't know how you come up with different ideas all of the time. I think if I were in your shoes I'd end up painting everything white and turquoise! I guess that's why you do what you do ;)

I love it. I'm glad you didn't do much to it...remember my polka dot and white dresser I stripped, it was yellow underneath and I left it....love it when that happens! Great job, as always!

Love this! It does look very Anthropolgie. I actually just did a post on making an Anthropologie inspired shirt. That store is so expensive, but gives great inspiration for DIY projects! Great work!

Just stopping by from Fabulous Friday Party!! Looks great! I am trying to find a dresser like that with the legs for our master. We have a vent that I can't cover and figured this shape with diverter on the vent would work. The paint job looks so original and old! Great job!

I like it ALOT!!! Hmmm... wonder if I can acheive that same accidental patina?!!!!

It looks wonderful!! I too am taking inspiration from Anthropology in the headboard I designed. Stay tuned to my blog. I'll be posting it shortly :)

Just saw this link on Finding Fabulous and had to tell you how fabulous it is. What a nice change from the regular painting and distressing we are all doing, too bad I don't live closer, I would so buy that!
