Piece of Work Wednesday Link Party Number 15!

Hi all!  Hope you are having a wonderful week, and enjoying the anticipation of Christmas!  I have been so busy stuffing my face with cookies and wine making last minute gifts for people that I almost forgot about POWW!  I am just wrapping the last of the presents, and putting a box together so I can cart over all the teacher gifts tomorrow since it is the last day of school before the break.  I have managed to squeeze in one furniture redo for this week's POWW.  I bought this dresser last week for $25.

I loved the shape of it, but the paint treatment and animal alphabet weren't working for me.  I stripped it down, and then refinished the top in a more rustic look, and gave the bottom a worn weathered look.  The mahogany stain on this piece bled so badly that I tried to paint the bottom white, but it was bleeding like no other.  It was one of those that a million coats of primer wouldn't help.  So I had to give it a finish that would blend with the bleeding, and chose my dark gray Cabot stain.  I buy this at my local Habitat Restore- Sorry, I don't know where else to get it!  I used every last drop and scraped it out of the can to finish this piece up, and then added wooden carved flower knobs from Anthropologie.  My husband has been travelling for work, so I couldn't get it outside for proper pictures.  Most of these were without flash, but one you can see was used with the flash and the color is actually more accurate in that one I would say.  Bye-bye animal alphabet, hello rustic chic!

So if you've had time between wrapping presents, decking the halls, cutting down the tree, carolling, making cookies, eating cookies, sipping egg nog, and holiday parties to work on a piece of furniture, then let's see what ya got!

Another hit. Like the commentor above I can't believe you saw the potenital in this baby. BTW I have been blog stalking you for a little while and finally got around to painting something myself. No crazy techniques or anything, but it's a start. Baby steps... Thanks for all the inspiration and advice on your blog, one of my favourites for sure.

Cassie works her magic again! It's wonderful and I love those knobs. Another piece that could be right out of Anthropologie. Great job and what a transformation! I bet the teachers will be delighted with your gifts tomorrow. That's very sweet of you.

Wow, I love what you did! I love how you just roll with things and make your pieces shine no matter what you are up against! I had the same bleeding issue yesterday...so frustrating! I wish I had something to link up, but I've also been too busy stuffing my face with cookies and wine :)
