Bet you thought since I already posted a project this week, I'd have nothing to show you... Au contraire, mes amies! I have a gorgeous French dresser to show you. I bought this highboy for a whopping $40 off craigslist. It is solid maple, well made, and has some gorgeous shapely drawers. (Hey, so do I!)

| This photo was taken after most of the sanding was done. |
It needed some minor repairs made to some of the drawer glides, but all of its hardware was present, which made me happy! I chose a soft blue to paint it. After a coat of primer and 3 coats of paint though, I was just not happy with the color. So I gave it a good distressing by hand to show off all those curves and edges, and then went over it all with Minwax Provincial stain, which is quite dark. I used a sponge brush to brush it on, and then wiped off, following the grain of the wood, with a rag. When all was said and done, it had a lovely antiqued finish, and the color was much better- more of a blue/green, and much prettier. Here it is now!
So now that the new year is here, are you back and ready with projects to show off? I hope so! I have been pretty nice so far with people who link up projects other than furniture, but starting today, I will be deleting posts that are not furniture. Sorry guys, but this party is SPECIFICALLY FURNITURE REDOS!

HI! did you put anything on after the stain? (ie, will it stay "protected" still?)... it's lovely and I'm possibly thinking of changing some colors schemes in the house..have always loved the dove grey/blue colors.
I would have bought that for $40 - the drawers have such a cool shape!

Ohhh, gosh. I do LOVE the redo idea and I think it was really creative and a great use of Craigslist.
The "shabby chic" thing always gets a wee bit lost on me sometimes, though. For some reason the new paint job makes it look to me like a white/pastel blue dresser that got dirt on it (tastes vary, it probably looks entirely different to fans of the look). But I adore that you found such a very pretty dresser, and while I probably would have sanded/repaired it as you did but then applied an extremely dark, rich stain/finish, I love that you rescued such a nice piece and turned it into something new and creative. It's a very cool post. :)
