It's beautiful, but it wasn't Ellen's style; she preferred softer and more shabby chic. Ellen brought over her china that would be going in the cabinet and we decided to give it a warm white distressed look with a soft green on the inside. I showed her my own cabinets, and we chose Sherwin Williams Alabaster with Minwax Golden Oak stain for the exterior, and Benjamin Moore's Lily Pad for the inside. It was a lot of work, but I finally finished it! I emailed Ellen to let her know, and I planned on taking a nice picture of it outside just before we loaded it into her truck. (And because my husband said to me after we brought it into the house from sanding, "This cabinet will be staying right there until they pick it up". Um, yes, it was a bit challenging for us to get it down the stairs of our home.) Anyhow, it took Ellen a couple days to get back to me which was unusual. She told me her grandmother had been ill and passed away. I told her not to worry, and to take her time and take care of her family. This piece now is going to have so much more meaning to Ellen, so I am honored to have painted it for her, and glad that she will have so many nice memories when she looks at it. Anyhow, these pictures are from my basement workspace, because as the man said, it's not moving!
I can't wait for Ellen to see it! So what have you been working on?

Cassie the china cabinet is gorgeous, especially the blue interior. Thanks for hosting as usual, love seeing all the inspiration.
BEAUTIFUL china cabinet, Cassie!
Oh, Cassie, that's beautiful! I'm sure that she'll love it and that she'll have happy thoughts of her g-ma when she looks at it.
I've got two pieces that don't go together. I'm about to paint them and turn them into a kind of hutch. I was planning to use a cream color for most of it, but I'd started trying to think of a color to use on the back paneling. I'm thinking the green you used here might be the way to go.
I love the designs on the glass! Beautiful finish!
SO SO pretty!!! I'm sure her Grandma will look down and think it looks absolutely beautiful.
It looks beautiful, Cassie! The detail on the glass doors is very pretty. I'm sure Ellen will cherish it even more. I think it fits the Shabby Chic look very well!
I finally painted something, haha!
Have a good Tuesday!
Michelle :)
Cassie, it is beautiful
I love this. SO I am wondering...is your work space in a unfinished basement. Did you spray down there or when you paint do you use a brush? Great work BTW i love the finished product and I love a shabby hutch!
I have a garage and an unfinished basement and I have been thinking of when its too cold for the garage...thanks

Hey Cassie-
Have you done any dressers with a laminate top? If so, did the normal sanding-priming-painting work? I have some cheap dressers & I'm planning on kicking their butt!
Such a great story!!
It looks great!
The china hutch is gorgeous! And what a beautiful reminder for Ellen of her grandmother.
I love this piece! Amazing what a little paint can do!
Lovely. these take such patience and yours show. Come on take a peak at my latest post as i found a new wax technique that is really easier than traditional wax.
This hutch is gorgeous! I can't even imagine how long it took! Well worth it though! That's sad about Ellen's grandma. I'm sure her grandma would have loved the hutch though!
Love the way that turned out...she is going to be thrilled!
It turned out so beautiful. She will love it! My thoughts are with Ellen and her family during this difficult time.

Wow Cassie...that's gorgeous!
It looks fabulous!
I know exactly what you are talking about. I just finished a hutch myself (I've linked it here) .... what a monster to deal with.
What a beautiful piece and a wonderful treasure for Ellen! Yes, definitely bittersweet!
Cassie, I need to talk to you about this in more depth via email. I love this cabinet and have one that is similar. It was my parent's first piece of "real" furniture so I don't want to get rid of it, but I really don't like the dark finish. Feeling really guilty for wanting to paint it. Can you talk me down from the bridge? Better yet, could you come to NC and paint if for me :) ?
Looks like I finished my dresser in time to link up with you! (: I love that hutch in your post. So cute!
I wanna use exactly this type of furniture soon. As I think, its look be perfect for my home interior.

Wow! At first I was thinking it was too, too nice to paint, but I do understand that you want to make a piece work in your life or you won't enjoy it as much. Beside, you can always strip it:)
It turned out beautifully! I love the idea of a different color on the inside. You really thought of all the details.
