These are the post-electric sander shots. Since the chairs were so spindly and I knew I couldn't possibly get all of the shiny finish off, I used Sherwin Williams adhesion primer. I tested an area that wasn't sanded and it stuck. I gave the chairs 3 coats of that to be safe- remember I use a brush so with allt hose spindles you can't go on too thick! The chairs took then 3 more coats of paint. Yikes! The table I gave two coats of primer and 3 coats of paint. Once they were all done I distressed them by hand. The paint was really on there after all that primer, So I ended up using a paint scraper to take some of the paint off the edges, and then sanded to make that area look more worn. Once it was all distressed, I went over it all with Minwax Golden Oak to give it a more antiqued finish. We used semi-gloss Harmony (Zero VOC) paint in Greek Villa on this project. Bridget prefers the satin look, but since she has kids and needs something that will clean easily, semigloss was a better choice. Here they are now, oh, and now that you have seen my workspace I am not too ashamed to show you the final product of the table still in the workspace since I cannot carry it by myself.
I can't wait to see them in place in Bridget's home!
