A Fun Little Vintage Dresser

Last week when I went to the auction, my husband was out of town, so I figured I would only get small pieces I could unload and carry myself.  But then I saw a cute little dresser that I knew I could carry myself if I had to!  So I bid on it, and won, and it came home with me for $30.
I loved its shape, size, and roomy drawers for such a petite piece.  I also loved its original hardware.  What I didn't love was the teddy bear decal and the dreary color.  I was fairly certain that it was painted with lead paint because of the overall vibe of the dresser- feelin' circa 1950.  So I sanded it lightly.  The only place where I sanded heavier was where the decal was.  I primed it with Kilz Clean Start, and then used Benjamin Moore's Spectra Blue in Aura satin (which is more like a semigloss).  I then stenciled the two middle drawers with a stencil I found at the hob lobster.
I had seen this dresser that Nikki at Kreative Knack had done and loved it! Thanks so much, Nikki, for the inspiration!

I used DecoArt Winter White for the stenciling.  Then I gave it all a light distressing.  Before I put the knobs back on, I scubbed them with very fine steel wool so get some rusty crud off and make them shine again.  I am really happy with how it turned out!

I thought I would share this now, since tomorrow my brother and his girlfriend fly in from Los Angeles for a few days.  Sawyer and Emmy are soooo excited to see Uncle Dana, and we are all looking forward to meeting his beautiful girlfriend we have heard so much about.  I have a good feeling about this, and that's all I am saying.

Well, if it were mine, I would have definitely kept that teddy bear! Hoot hoot, j/k! It looks so so pretty, you did a great job stenciling it. Oh, and tell your brother to marry that girl so you will be forced to come out to Cali :) Thx.

Great re-do! Are you going to 'do' anything with the top dresser drawer? That center area screams for something.....can't stop thinking about it. (Yep, I am a nut!) A word, name, or something.....still thinking.... Oh well, gotta get back to my own projects!!! Looks great!

Oh, that bear is horrid!! I redid a side table last year and halfway through, had a thought about lead paint. Oops!

This turned out so cute! I love the pattern you used. I tried a pattern out on a tray I have at home and it was nearly the death of me! But it looks like you have way more patience than I do! I love it!
