I have learned a couple of things this past week.
1. I never want to move again. Because I love this house. And because it is a royal pain. And expensive.
2. I do not need to seek adventure. It seeks me out just fine without any help from me.
This could be very long, so bear with me and skip ahead if you just want to see pictures of the new digs.
We were all set to close at 10 am last Wednesday, and our moving company was set to deliver at 1 pm. At 4 pm the afternoon before closing, I received a phone call from the bank that they would not be ready and we needed to close at 3 pm. Well that would not do! We had movers coming at 1!!! So I got a power of attorney to sign so Chris could go to the closing without me and I could be with the movers. Good? Good.
Wednesday morning, I was about to set off to sign what I needed to, and the moving company crew calls me... No one informed them that it was a 1 pm delivery, and they were ready to go- at 9 am. I told them I couldn't be there and was sorry no one told them, but that I had confirmed the time the day before and someone else did not do their job, but I was the paying customer. After I hung up I received another call about 5 minutes later from another man (the rep who had done my estimates, and poorly at that!). He asked if they could come first thing the next morning instead. Um, no.
So they came at 1 pm. And they could not get the truck up our hill. We had told the company about the hill, and in such circumstances they are supposed to send someone to survey the delivery location. They had not. So the crew gave us our mattresses, and hit the road, ready to come back the next morning with a cargo truck as well that would be the gopher up and down our driveway.
We made the best of it... we had brought with us a TV and DVD player, and I had purchased The Lion King as we had planned to watch it the first night. We ran out and bought sheets, blankets, pillows, and a frozen pizza. We camped out on our floor watching the movie, eating pizza, and snuggling under a blanket. It was honestly so much fun and a fabulous first memory in this house.
Thursday the movers returned and were able to unload.... YAY! Thursday was also Sawyer's first day of school. I drove him to the school so we could get him enrolled officially and take a quick tour. He would be riding the bus home though. Being the good mother I am, I wrote his bus number on his hand so he would not forget. Of course, I completely forgot to tell him which stop to get off at. Oops. So.... bus stop time rolls around and there is no sign of him, or the bus. A new neighbor and fellow mom (who also made us awesome cookies to welcome us!) told us the bud had broken down at the school. Chris hurried to his car to pick Sawyer up. 10 minutes later m phone rang, and Chris just missed them. So I ran back to the bus stop.... and when the bus stopped, there was no Sawyer. He had gotten off at the previous stop. Well, at least he was close, and I learned my lesson about making sure my kids know not only the bus number, but also where to stop! Other than that, he has really enjoyed his new school and made some new friends!
The weekend was spent running errands, unpacking, organizing. Sawyer also had his first soccer game on his new team. Emmy took her first dance class here this evening. The kids are doing well and adjusting well. Aside from the movie night the first night, my happiest moment thus far is when Sawyer came inside from playing Narnia in the back yard. He sat down to have a snack, looked at me and said, "Mom, this house is AWESOME!" They love playing in the yard and having so much space to run and be as loud as they wish!
So so far so good, right? Yes... until this morning when the water pressure disappeared from our shower. And then I went to finally run the dishwasher and heard water in the basement... the dishwasher was leaking EVERYWHERE and dripping through the ceiling of the basement and all over the kitchen floor. I shut it off and hand washed everything. Thank goodness we got a home warranty! We are already putting it to use!
We have had our fair share of adventure this week, but you know what? I love it here. I can honestly say that this feels like home to me. There are plenty of updates that need to be done to our new house, but I think we will be here for a very long time to come and have a long time to get to those projects. I started my day today with a walk.... I hadn't gotten any exercise since we moved last week, with exception of hauling boxes up and down hills and stairs. I walked down a winding road, and saw deer, a pony, a babbling brook that became a stream, old barns. I heard roosters crowing. I saw a group of cows waking from sleep, and as I walked by, they watched me with their eyes, and slowly got up one by one and walked to greet me. And I saw the hints of changing colors in the leaves. It was all simple, but beautiful, and peaceful.
So now, what you have all been waiting for... pictures!!! Some of these are from moving day, and some are from earlier today. Enjoy the tour! Oh, and I forgot to take pics of the garage and loft, but it's just big and open and loads of storage.
I know I have already shown you this picture of the exterior, but for those new readers, here is the exterior. The house sits on 1.7 acres and is set atop a rather large hill.
I will be replacing this picture soon- it was giving the address! sorry!
Sorry the kitchen pics turned out so dark.... these were taken quickly on move in day. Hopefully you can still tell how really ugly it is. Clean and serviceable, but we hope to change it soon! The actual move ate up a load of the budget, so all in time! I will get you better pictures later this week!

This will be our guest room, which features two huge closets! I love that!
This is our family room/playroom on the basement level.
This area is the utility area, but will also be my craft space, and an area for me to paint when it is too cold or too hot to work in the garage.
Here is our dining room! There will be some changes happening here, which include paint of course, and the removal of my china cabinet. I am going in a new direction.
Anna, this picture of sparkly skulls is just for you!
The dining room is just to the right of the front door. This is the view out of the dining room and into the foyer and living room. And yes, I had to put up some Halloween decor ASAP!
Including my awesome spiders from Ali's shop. She has a super cute set of three now that spell "eek"! Love it!
And how bout a look out the living room window?
Downstairs is one full bathroom. It needs some major updating, but at least I have a place to hang my octopus finally!
Upstairs has 3 bedrooms, and on bathroom. Here is our master bedroom. The bed will be centered under the window, but is off center for now since there is a curtain tieback screwed onto the frame, that sits rather closely to my head if we have the bed where we want it! Oh, and did you happen to notice our new bedding? I love it! It is the West Elm parachute duvet cover, courtesy of my inlaws for my birthday. :)
For now we have one dresser in the room and will be looking for another. The second we had is now in our walk in closet.
And now, here is where we really need some updating, aside from the kitchen! The bathroom is pretty awful.... The upstairs bath is somewhat like a Jack and Jill. Chris and I have one vanity, and to the right there is a door which leads to the toilet/shower/tub area, and then to the right of that is the kids vanity. Here is our vanity... wait til you see the fabulous light fixture.
Sweet!
Our walk in closet... not huge, but MUCH bigger than we are used to!
The shared toilet/shower area... check out the awesome flooring!
And the kids vanity...
Sawyer has the coolest room for a kid... I would have loved this as a child! And pardon the messes in the kids rooms... they were so excited to see their old toys again!
Emmy's room is in need of some hooks, a bookcase, etc.... organization!
And oh yeah, look who's back!!! We were so happy to see Charlie and Jake, who returned home yesterday. Thank you so much to Sandie, Ginny, and Tom for taking care of our boys and treating them better than we do. :) They have been enjoying lazing in the sunshine in the living room. I think I will be getting them a pretty new dog bed for that room!
Well, that's about it! Even though we have already had some issues, we are genuinely happy with our choice and our new home. I can't wait to get through the rest of the boxes, and getting the garage organized so I can get to work making our mark on this home!

Looks great - a new to you house full of potential and projects! Could quite possibly be one of my favorite things...can't wait to see where you take it! liz
Holy cow! You have your work cut out for you! I just had a flash back to when we moved into our never-updated-60's-era home five years ago. It still haunts me. Have loads of fun and do anything you want!! Happy house-warming! andrea@townandprairie
It is crazy how much moving costs. We ran into the same thing with the budget. Looks like you have an adventure waiting. And your first night sounds perfect to me.
Wow! I love the view from your new place :) It also looks like you guys will enjoy making it your own as you grow with it--lots of fun potential! Glad that you finally got everything settled in :)
What an amazing view. The neighborhood sounds awesome. Thanks for the tour!
So glad that you're HOME and have retained your sense of humor! the view is gorgeous...I'm in love. It's a wonderful house, and I know it will be even better in time!
Good grief, what an ordeal it's been to get you guys in that house. It certainly looks like it was all worth it - it's so cute and has great potential! And that view! Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm so excited for you!
Kacey
P.S. I have the same West Elm duvet. I love it!!!
Cassie so happy for you. PS - We have the same Crate & Barrel coffee, end table and console that match your DR table - great minds think alike. That upstairs bath is awesome - and carpeted to boot! The eaves present a bit of a challenge, we have the same issue, cozy but a slight furniture debacle. Take your time, think it through, can't wait to see the updates in the years to come.
Ok, I have to admit, I skipped to the pics. I like your new house. I can't wait to see it become yall's home!
Hey, is that a Care Bear in the basement? Flashbacks, sigh!
Ok, off to read now. :)
Yay Cassie! I love the potential I see in every photo!
What a fantastic home and space you have!!! It has so much character and the view's not bad either!!
Congrats on the move and have wonderful fun getting it all set up just how you want!
It's going to be so much fun to follow your changes. I am loving the house for all the room and potential. I smiled when I would see boxes and yet there would be a bit of decor like the mantel and dining table. :) It's gonna all be so fabulous. I didn't think the kitchen was ugly. It's just not you yet.
Now that view from the living room is sooooo PRETTY. Looks like a wonderful home for your family and I'm sure y'all will love it there.
Blessings,
Linda
I'm so happy for you guys! Your house has so many great features, and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it - the "new direction" you're taking! I love it that you did the pizza and movie thing the first night - what a nice way to make lemonade from lemons and make a sweet memory!
-Revi
What a wonderful scenic view all around your new home. So much to do and so much space to work with. Congratulations on your new home.

Sounds like you've have a lot of ups and downs, but thank goodness you're finally there! Love that gorgeous view! So much potential in this home! Glad you're settling in ok! :)
Yes, I DEFINITELY missed you!!! YAY!!!!!! You're finally getting settled. I am SO happy for you all, and can't wait to see how things start to look once you really start diving in. I am so jealous of all of the beautiful nature that surrounds you now and can't wait to come visit :) Yay for new beginnings! (and sorry about that water situation - yuck!! but I'm sure you handled it like a pro xo)
You finally made it and it looks like all of the stress was worth it! Your location is gorgeous...I can see why the kiddos love to play outside. I don't think the interior is bad at all (ok - except maybe for the bathroom light and floor). I love that little nook that fits Emmy's vanity/desk perfectly. It cracks me up that you already have Halloween decor up. Priorities, right? I'm so happy for you and your family! It must be amazing to be someplace that truly feels like home, and to have your sweet dogs back too.
Yipppeee, Yahooo, hooray!!! Well, you already know how much I missed you....I think the tri-daily texts may have given you a clue, ha ha! I am IN LOVE with your new house and I can't wait to come see it in person. Thanks for the shout-out of course! You rock :)
I've been listening to your cd all day and love it!
(I'm so happy you're back). XO
Congrats on the move and new house! I'm sure that's a huge relief for you guys! We actually just sold our house and are in temporary housing right now too while the new house is being built so I totally feel your pain (NEVER moving again). :) Can't wait to see the projects begin!!
So happy for you Cassie! And I'm so glad someone else lives in a wonderful house in a wonderful neighborhood, and appreciates the "good bones" like I do! Enjoy the dogs, and the cows, and that amazing view!!!
Amanda
Congrats! It all looks amazing! I'm getting inspired for you! I can't wait to see all the projects and the fun to come!
What a great house! Can't wait to see you turn it into a home more and more!
Congratulations Cassie! That is soooo exciting. I actually really envy people who get to buy an older home and remodel as they desire. I think older homes have a charm and character that you just don't get as often with new homes anymore. I am SMITTEN with your exterior. Knowing you, this house is going to be a knockout before we know it! Good luck with the unpacking and settling in. You may be excused from blogging for 3 months :)
xo
Jen
That View?! Sickening! <3
Lucky GURL!
Congrats to you. Lots of fun ahead!
All the stress a few weeks ago, and look what you have at the end! Eeekkk, I'm so excited for you poppit, the house looks wonderful and the view is just amazing.
Your going to have such a great time turning the house in to your family home, and even though they messed up the first moving day, that first night sounds like the perfect way to start life in your new home.
Yay! So happy to see you safe and sound in your new digs.
So much space and so much potential. You are going to have a riot getting it decorated. Your kitchen is fabulous with all of those cabinets.
I love it and your new adventure. Sometimes I would like to move and then I start "remembering"! I think I'll stay put! Good luck and you have a zillion blogs now lined up with creating each new room in your house! I can't wait to follow it.
In order for this not to be the longest post ever I am just gonna say that One, I'm glad the moving drama is over and that you have a home warranty, and two...OMG I love your house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is perfect for you guys (and me too :))!! Thanks for thinking of me with the two closets in my room, I come with a lot of baggage...har har har! Anyway I love you and am beyond thrilled for you guys!!!!!
I cannot wait to see the updates! I would have totally freaked out with the first day of school bus fiasco!!!!
Well, if everything went as planned you wouldn't have anything fun to share with us :) Love your new home and I LOVE that you already have up decor, my kind of girl! Glad you are back!!
Halloween decorations girlfriend??? Are you kidding me??? lol YOU ARE POSSESSED!!! I thought I was bad, but I guarentee you, just having moved in, there would not be a single skull or pumpkin! lol I have owned 7 homes since 1988. I GET the movers thing big time!!! You are a trooper to have stayed on mattresses the first night. I might have hit a hotel!!! lol Congrats on the move in....
So jealous of your view! Makes me a little homesick. :) I grew up in Boonsboro (just over the mountain from Myersville) and moved to Ohio when I got married. It's so flat here... :(
Enjoyed your tour, but you sure do have your work cut out for you! Can't wait to see your progress! ~Rachel
Looks like you have some fun projects ahead!
Sorry about the movers. I'd like to say your experience was unique, but most of my pals have had similar headaches. Just glad you had a good outcome!
You sound SO happy...and that makes me happy! Enjoy getting settled...LOVE the house. Seriously, so much potential!
Wow!! You all have had quite a time...but it looks like it all turned out so well! Love the octopus shower curtain....and your view from the living room is gorgeous!!! I cannot wait to see what you do with your new home...those kitchen cabinets have so much great potential! Take care, Caroline

Congratulations!! It is perfect and you will make it amazing! I'm so glad it finally all worked out! Home buying is a test of strength!
I'm so appy for you and your family! Enjoy every minute of the move and transforming the new house into YOUR home.
Your house reminds me of the places we stay when we vacation in the Smoky Mts.What a picturesque place, I am so excited to see you transform it into your own unique space. i'm so glad you children are adjusting well and that Sawyer likes his new school. Now that its finally done I'm sure you feel like a load is off your shoulders. Cassie, it is totally awesome! I have goosebumps!!! Can't wait for my personal tour! I am so thrilled for all of you!!!
Cassie I'm so happy for you and your family! I'm excited to see what projects you do, what an awesome opportunity. AND it's good to see you have your 4-legged kids back too :) When my husband and I bought our first house and our kids were little, we had a similar experience with the water. The 2nd bath flooded out my daughters room on day 2 and I remember thinking the exact same thing - "thank God we have a warranty!!!!".
I can not wait to see what you do with your new place. It is totally freaking amazing!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to you and you family. Be blessed and take it slow.
Love your home and that view! Will love to see the changes you make.
It looks great. I can't wait to see your updates! Congrats on the new home!
Welcome back! I love your dining room chairs - I can't wait to get some of those myself:) I also love the view. It's simply gorgeous. Good luck getting settled.
Congratulations on surviving your move! What a fabulous view! Hope you enjoy many happy years there.
Amazing Cassie! After surviving that move (and making such lemonade out of those lemons) I can see why this is the perfect house for you and your family. I'm sure you're loving all that space and finally getting to settle down with your fam and the pups after all the excitement of the past few months.
Congratulations on being in your new place and best wishes for fun projects on the road ahead!
Meredith @ Welcome to Heardmont
Wow, what an ordeal! The house looks awesome! That's great that the kids love it and there's so much space for them :) Hope you are settling in well!
Unbelievable...those movers owe you big time! Sorry about that dishwasher, but maybe you've inspired others to be sure and get a home warranty!! Your house has tons of potential and that view is so awesome!!!! Congrats and welcome home. You sound exactly how happy I was when I moved to my home.
Yes, we missed you and so glad to see you back and getting settling into your new fabulous home with the fabulous view! Glad the kids are loving it and Sawyer likes his new school. Thanks for the fun tour and I look forward to seeing your transform it into your home with the "Cassie" seal on it. All my best to you and your family.
You are going to make that house into an awesome home...can't wait to see it transform! xx Danielle
congrats! it looks great--so full of projects! can't wait to see them. you have probably answered this at some point, but i'm a fairly new follower and have to know - where did you get your dining room chairs? i've found some on overstock and amazon, but don't know about the quality of them. let me know if you can, thanks!
There is SOO Much potential!! I can't wait to see what you do with it!!!
1.7 acres!!! The kids will love that....I love all the character that house has and when you are finished it will be wonderful! FYI...we did notice and we did miss you!
what a great place to make wonderful memories!
Just look at those sweet puppies all stretched out in the sunshine. Congratulations on being settled and already making new memories in your new home. Writing the bus number on Sawyer's hand was such a great idea.
That view is really pretty! I cannot wait to see where you go from here Casey. Sending a big hug from North Carolina!
What a great house Cassie! I'm so happy for you guys!
Wow! Your new house has some AMAZING features! So much potential, I am so jealous! :) Congrats and can't wait to see what you do with it!
Cassie I'm so glad that you guys are finally in the house and enjoying yourselves! What an adventure!
Updating the house will be a fun project but it's got great bones to work with! Love those bedrooms and the large family room area. Oh and that view from the living room window is reason enough to buy the house. Enjoy!
Sarah
that view is gorgeous! Although the kitchen and bathrooms definitely need some updating, the rooms are a good size and the home has a lot of character, and wood floors downstairs?
Lots of space for you to decorate, have fun and enjoy your new home!
Awww Cassie your new home is just gorgeous! So glad you feel at home there already, it must be just the right home for you :) I am looking forward to seeing how your put your stamp on it...bet it won't be long ;)
xx Karen
Holy cow--that is an adventure alright! Congrats on getting moved in. That view is incredible! So happy this house feels like home already!
oh my gosh! so happy for you. Glad you're making memories already (camping out is a great first one)
I hope all goes well for Sawyer, he must be one brave little soldier!
yay for home warranty!
wishing you ALL the BEST!

You have a great view! It sounds like things were chaotic for awhile, but now you're in, and I'm excited to see what you do with your house! It really does look like a "forever house".
I'm so happy for you!
Cassie - yay you are in! So happy you're finally there! Your new home is fabulous, so full of potential, and your view is gorgeous!!! And of course that light fixture rocks!!!
Cassie! That view!!! Omg!!! Gorgeous! Hope you guys are settling in! When I was little and we had moved to a new house I did the same exact thing as your son! Brought back memories ;)
Great house Cassie! The view is to die for and I hope I get to experience first hand at some point :)
Yay!!! The wait is finally over! I'm so happy you all are settled in and the kids are happy in their new digs. That view is awesome and I can't wait to see it in person. ;0)
I really have missed you!! I cannot believe your closing/moving catastrophes! Well actually I can, since I'm a closing attorney... rescheduling due to lender issues + getting yelled at by borrowers because it messes up their moving plans happens to me on a daily basis, ha! I'm so glad Sawyer wasn't freaked out by the bus stop catastrophe and loves the house. I do too! It needs a little work and a whole lot of white paint but wow, it's incredible. And those views! I'm so excited for you, Cass! : )
It looks perfect...so excited for you! Cannot wait to see how you transform it!
Oh-EM-GEE...you are better woman than I because they would have already locked me up in a looney bin after all those crazy events going on! Why is it that it all has to happen at once??? The house is absolutely beautiful and I can already see you putting your stamp on it! It sounds like the perfect place to live...congrats and now maybe you can get some R&R in??? (c:
Looks awesome! I'm so happy for you. I love how much space you have.
I'm finally getting to catch up on your new move! Congratulations! I know you will love making this house your home. I'm so happy you are in a home you LOVE!
Yay! So happy for you! The house is beautiful and that view is amazing. Can't wait to see your personality in the new house!
Sorry I am just now getting around to seeing your new house. It's fabulous! I love the view out the window. I'm so happy you are finally settled in and that the kids are happy there too. :)
The view! The view! I'm moving, now!
Congrats on your new home! Moving is hard, exciting, challenging & inspiring, all at the same time. We just made a move 3 months ago, & it has & continues to be an exciting adventure. Your home looks to have great bones and lots of potential. Can't wait to see how you put your spin on it!
:) CAS
