Piece of Work Wednesday Furniture Link Party Number 59; And the Guest Room Bed Revisted

Note: The headboard can NOT be mounted any higher than it is, but thanks for all the input.  the bottom of the headboard is already mounted to where the top of the mattress is, as high as it can go.  If it is mounted to the wall, it will have a big open space below the bottom of the headboard and the top of the mattress.  Sorry- just wanted to let you all know. :)  If I could have I would have!

Hello there!  First of all, thank you all so much for your comments on the mantle makeover and of course the beautiful blue bed that turned out to be a full and not a queen, and therefore didn't work for our guest room.  After that heartbreaking moment of putting the boxspring on the bed to find the bed was way too small, I scoured craigslist for a few days, and finally found a headboard that was suitable AND queen sized.  My awesome husband picked it up for me on Sunday for a whopping $20.  here it is sorta before/sorta during as I had sanded it already here...
I used the same Naopoleonic blue chalk paint I had used before.  And although I know that in theory I should be able to use chalk paint on any surface and it will stick, I don't always trust it, so I usually lightly sand first.  Sorry, Annie, but I have had it not live up to what it is supposed to do a couple times, and I can't always be trusting after that!
Anyhow, I gave it two coats of Napoleonic Blue, and then I used polycrylic this time instead of wax as I decided I wanted a glossier finish.  I attached it to the frame we already had on hand, and voila!  It is not as tall as I would like, but most older beds and headboards are not as tall as they are nowadays because mattresses and boxsprings weren't always so darn big.  Anyhow, here is the new queen headboard!

YAY!  Today I am working on the dresser for the guest room and hope to share that later this week.  Then this weekend I will tackle trim, walls, and remove the one wall of wallpaper in there that is the only wall of in the house thankfully!

So, let's see your latest and greatest furniture projects!
RULES:
1. Must be a follower here to party here.

3. Your project MUST BE A FURNITURE MAKEOVER OR BUILD.  No crafts!

That's it- leave some comments for others and party on, Wayne!

So glad you found such a pretty replacement headboard. It's beautiful in that color! If you want more of the headboard to show I bet you could mount it to the wall behind the mattress and frame with as much showing as you would like. Deb

Love the headboard - that color is gorgeous. And I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make it taller by mounting to the wall or adding some taller supports to the bottom. Either way, it looks fabulous.

That color with the shine and the shape of the headboard is stunning. Love it!

Stephanie @ dial m for minky said...

Oh Iove that headboard! Not that you want any input, but I got a headboard that was too low and I got some sheet wood at home depot and attatched it along the bottom so I could raise the headboard just about six inches. Painted it to match and it looks great! Even unmade the detailing along the bottom looks fine and when the bed is made you can't even tell what was original and what was added. I think the total cost was like 10 bucks.
Just a thought, although I think it looks great like it is. I love how brave you are with color. I wish I was!
