Maury from Life on Mars!!!!! Yay, Maury!
This post has nothing to do with Cranberries, but does have to do with special Christmas wrapping, which makes me think of the song of that title... Come on and sing along!
Ok, moving onto the actual gift wrapping I wanted to talk about! I am over at The DIY Club sharing a special way to wrap up the candles and magnets I am making for gifts. Here is a little peak...
You can find all the rest of my DIY Club projects by clicking on the button on my sidebar!
Aside from working on gifts this weekend, I have been working on decorating as well! Unfortunately, Chris has been hit pretty hard by the bug and spent all of yesterday in bed, so I was hanging with the kids all day while decorating which can be fun but also a little challenging! :) We obviously have put getting our tree on hold for now, too and will get it next weekend. For nowI have at least the dining room completely decorated for Christmas and wanted to share!
In all the opening of Christmas decoration boxes I realized something. I have too many decorations, for starters, but also, that I wanted to keep the decor a little on the "less" side this year than I have done in the past. I still put out quite a bit, and there are certain pieces that will always go up for sentimental reasons. I have been working on the whole house, but the dining room is the one place where it's decorated exactly how I want it this year; I am perfectly satisfied.
This bunting you see is my Advent Calendar I created with the kids yesterday. More on that will be coming this week.
A simple tablescape features some vintage mirrors, PB reindeer I purchased on sale a couple years ago, milkglass compote filled with glittered silver and blue pinecones, and a pair of milk glass vases I am using as taper candlesticks with aqua candles.
The bench by the window is decorated in whites and shimmer....
This tinsel tree is adorned with beautiful glittered sand dollars I won from my friend Yanet last year. I love that it serves as a reminder of the friendships I have formed through this blog. At the top of the tree sits a feathery white owl my parents gave me for my birthday. And next to him is a deer I upcycled last Christmas.
On the other side of the bench sit some bog mercury glass swirly orbs from Crate & Barrel's post Christmas clearance sale two years ago, and a snowman my parents gave me.
A new addition to the dining room yesterday is this chalkboard. It actually is my ikat artwork. I just flipped over the Ikat side and painted the back with chalkboard paint so I can use either side. I hung a tiny tinsel wreath on the corner.
That's all for now! Chris is hoping to feel better to day so we may still be able to get our tree. Fingers crossed!!!

love the chalkboard :) everything looks great!
I love how subtle these Christmasy touches are in your dining room, Cassie! In years past I have felt like all the colorful STUFF wears me down by the end of the holiday season. I would never get tired of this room as is! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and your hubby is feeling better!
I love that Christmas song. It was always playing in the mall when I was a teenager.
So the green sideboard is new. Did I miss that post? Love the pop of color with the stripes.
Beautifully decorated! I'll be getting less out this year too, my tree will go up today!
I love what you have done! That little tree and deer are too cute. Hope he starts feeling better. xx
I love it. It doesn't have to be over the top to look fabulous!
I agree that your decor is subtle but very effective and so you. I see things that make me think of you all the time and my mind says there's a Cassie decoration. Especially owls.
Looks wonderful Cassie, and the chalkboard was a perfect addition! I was looking forward to getting over here this morning to see what you had done!!! Mercury glass seems to be my favorite this year and yours is right up my alley! Here's to hoping Chris is better soon!
Love this song! And subtle is good.
BEAUTIFUL my friend! It's all perfect! That little tinsel tree is one of the cutest I've seen. And mr.hoot looks perfect with all of your other mercury glass :) I am a fan of the chalkboard of course and everything else is just perfect! I am still SO in love with that "Antiques" sign friend. It's perfection!!
XOXO - FEEL BETTER CHRIS!!!!!
I decided to go with less this year too. Little nods to the holidays that don't stand out too much. Love those little reindeer on your table.
Yay!! It looks so beautifully festive and chic in there (as always). You did an awesome job! :) I hope Chris feels better ASAP, and that you are able to get your tree. As always, I can't wait to see what you do with it!
xo
You did such a great job, I can't pick my favorite thing! I need to pull out my Christmas decor and get to work now!
I love your sweet and simple holiday decor - it suits you Cassie!
Your house looks beautifully decorated, Cassie! I love the little tinsel tree and the white owl is adorble as well as sweet Mr. Snowman. You did a nice job! I hope your hubby is feeling better!
I am so with you on that one. Keeping it simple for sure this year and enjoying the more important things.
Hope your hub gets to feeling better soon! Love how your dining room looks all decorated for Christmas! I'm ready to come over for dinner! ;)
I love your decorations! Especially that tree!
Love the simplicity - I left about 50% of my Christmas decoration in the bins this year and am trying to simplify too. I too am using milk glass and have a PB reindeer (in black) that was given to me a couple of years ago. New follower. Feel better!

Hi Cassie, I appreciate you joining the Open House Party this week and sharing your lovely Christmas decor. We are planning to simplify this year too.
Hugs,
Sherry
I love your decor. Even though it is not my style, I can truly appreciate the simple elegance of how you have decorated. Just because my current Christmas home is "more is better," doesn't mean that some day I will lean more toward "less is better!" Just not this year!

There's a lot to be said for simplicity. You've achieved maximum impact with minimal "stuff." Your sand dollar tree is adorable and I love the way you've tied your chalkboard into the theme.
Aw! Now I feel really bad I didn't see this earlier. Thank you for the sweet words and displaying them so beautifully. Where did you get the tree. It would work great to display the Christmas ornaments I'm selling.
