Piece of Work Wednesday Furniture Link Party Number 65 & and a Chance to Win a Home Depot Gift Card!

Before I get to the party I want to tell you about a chance to win a $100 Home Depot gift card!  You guys know I love using DecoArt products.  Well, I have just been informed that they are coming out with a line of products for furniture!  How exciting!  BUT, they want our help- after all, we are the ones who work with furniture and will be using it. :)  If you can take a minute to go fill out a quick survey, you will be entered into the drawing to win!  You have until FRIDAY to do so and be eligible!  Also, just wanted to let you know any information you give is only used internally and will not be shared. :)

I told you all last week that I was going to be doing less furniture painting, etc., spending more time with my kids...

Well I am doing that, but I have to say that as soon as that weight was lifted and I told you, I felt a surge in creativity and whipped out several gifts last week, which I cannot show you yet. :)  I have some new ideas in the works, and have still been able to spend the time with my kids I wanted.  We have been having a blast with our Advent calendar.  We have so far drawn pictures of Santa, watched a Christmas movie, made peanut butter balls, and more!
And I even managed to squeak out a little mini furniture makeover for Emmy's room.  She has had this little vintage stool for a few years now.  I purchased it at a flea market for $3. (Sorry for the sideways picture!)

I know right now some of you are freaking out and thinking I ruined that lovely needlepoint top.  Don't worry- it's still under there. I removed the top, sanded and painted the bottom in Paris Gray.  Then I distressed and waxed it.   For the top, I used a piece of laundered canvas drop cloth and taped off the lines to paint some French inspired ticking stripes.
I was going for a look very similar to a piece Cynthia from Simply Chic Treasures linked up a couple weeks ago...

I chose a red acrylic craft paint and mixed it with textile medium.  Then once it was dry I heat set the paint with an iron, stapled it to my cushion, and voila!

I did the painting while Emmy watched, and then covered the seat while she was at school so I could surprise her when she got home.  Is it sad that my 4 year old was SO excited about a French inspired stool?  I am raising her to appreciate the finer things in life, but also how to achieve the look of them for much less.

So what have you worked on this week?  I can't wait to see!  Remember your project must be FURNITURE!!!

You KNOW I love those stripes. Reminds me of the chair I did for Joey. Can't ever go wrong with those. Have a great day :)

Stripes! My favorite! Emmy is so dang lucky! It's nice to have a mother that cares about what your room looks like while growing up. Emmy is going to be one talented designer when she's older.

I love the chair and stool! I'm still to try painting on a drop cloth. You'd think I would have done it by now with my husband being a painter and all ;o)

I like the stipes better! It needed the update..great job! Also, wanted to mention that I loved the poem about children, too. I am glad it touched you like it did me and that you used it here! Such hustle and bustle...hard to keep it all in perspective! I hope you are doing well and finding this Christmas to be your best ever! Christie

Such a cute French makeover and your story about Emmy made me smile. Mary was sitting with me as I browsed Pinterest and she exclaims, "Mommy that bathroom is beautiful!" Like mother, like daughter.

I just had to stop by and tell you how cute this footstool is!!!
I have one exactly like it in my garage I've wanted to re-do, I've upholstered it three times in the past 15 years, and even have another with pretty shabby chic fabric, but I love the look of the grain sack! Wonderful job!
By the way I'm having a cool giveaway, you're cordially invited to stop by and enter, tami
