I have been sharing with you some of the steps along the way in making over our guest bathroom. I've shared the painted vanity as well as the silver leafed mirror. Well last week I busted my butt (and maybe I should have been doing other things like laundry or cooking dinner...) to get the rest of the room painted- walls and trim to be exact. And for the entire bathroom, I only had to purchase one gallon of paint. For the vanity, I used paint left from my ombre dresser; and for the trim I was able to use left over "zinc" paint from my fireplace makeover. For the walls, I purchased a gallon of Benjamin Moore's Aura Bath and Kitchen paint in "Cotton Balls" in flat. Beyond the paint the only items I purchased were a new toilet paper holder in brushed steel as well as a new window shade (which was chosen because it can hide only the bottom half of the window and was on clearance for $24.99 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I also had Chris pick up a stainless steel IKEA shelf for $30, just as we had in our old master half bath. So the total amount of money spent on this makeover was around $140. Of course there are things like light fixtures, and eventually the tile surround that will be replaced as the years pass, but for now, this room is as good as it is going to get! Do you remember where we started?

So as you can see, it was oak, oak, and more oak.... even the toilet seat! (As a side note, we did buy a new seat as well, but that is something we do when we move into a "used" house.) Do you want to see it now? Here we go!

| Here you can see the shade which hides the bottom half of the window. We have neighbors up on a hill behind us which is why the bottom half is where privacy is needed. |
| Here is my old IKEA tray, with a soap dish my mom gave me and a hand towel. We treat our guests to special Ivory soap. :) |
So I worked hard last week, painting walls, sanding, priming, and painting the trim, hanging the shelf and the shade, but it was all worth it. Here is how I feel about the bathroom now....
One day when I can afford it I will retile the tub area as well as get a new light fixture. But for now, this bathroom gets one thumb up! It would get two but I had to hold the camera, too. :)

Oak is a nice enough wood, but oak overkill = not so good! You did a great job making over your guest bathroom :-) Paint is definitely your friend when you want to make over a room without spending a lot of money. Love the dark doors and trim, and that is the coolest shower curtain I've ever seen!

i love the after! it looks amazing. the gray is perfect, and of course the decor is great too. you are so talented. xx
Girl you just proved that you can do SO much to improve a space with a small budget and a lot of hard work! It looks like a brand new bathroom! I LOVE the color you chose for the doors and walls. It's so calm and serene and yet has so much personality! Now - you can come do my kids/guest bath - can you hear it screaming your name?! It needs so much help!
I'll loan you both of my thumbs and that'll make it three!
Shazam to the tenth power, my friend!
Great way to give it a more modern look! Pat on the back, girl!
Love the color of the vanity! It looks great!
Yes, please come help me...my guest bath is calling your name as well! It looks fantastic, Cassie! A whole new bathroom. Love the colors you chose. Cute photo of you, too.
Wow! It's gorgeous! Love that it makes such a bold statement, especially with that shower curtain. So cool!
Now that's a makeover budget I can afford. Love the gray trim and the octopus shower curtain and all your accessories. Lookin' good!
Nicely done, and I too am a fan of that shower curtain. Good job.
WOWZA! I loooooove it!!! You did such a great job! Oh - and I sure how you saved those shutters for future projects....maybe even for May. hint hint. xoxo
Beautiful, I wish my bathroom was that big (NYC tends to run on the VERY small side in apartments)
Look how much better it is without the wood! I love how it looks! Love the colors on the doors!!
love it!!!! bye bye ugly oak :)
Wow...looks great Cassie! I love your trim and door color and the cute shelf from Ikea...I may have to get one of those too! ~Deb~
Awesome transformation Cassie! Do you not just love the power of paint???
That shower curtain is so fun! I can't understand why you didn't keep the oak toilet lid, though? ;)
It's so pretty. It's like the shower curtain was made for the room.
I really like your choice for the trim color too. I'm going to mention it to the little brother and see if that can get him over the oak business.
Beautiful job, Cassie! (Not surprisingly!) You're a pro when it comes to paint. I love how everything came together! Great job! :)
Love it, Cassie. It looks so current and fresh!
It's amazing what some paint can do! That mirror looks fabulous too!
It's come a long way from it's old oakiness! It looks fabulous, Cassie! The colors and the newer more modern touches really make it look like a whole new bathroom.
It looks fantastic! I really love the beach look, but a totally fresh and new take on it. I love that you painted the doors. That is something I think people don't think of when doing a room, it adds a really fun extra pop of color. Now, just keep your kids out of there so it will stay "guest worthy". I tried and failed and tried and failed to make my guest bath a no #2 zone from my son. I had to give up.
Love the colors--it's a great update! The mirror turned out fabulous.
Wow! It looks awesome! I love the color you used for the doors and trim!
Looks awesome as always- I tell you we have some similar tastes and ideas. My basement is rocking gray doors and trim, just haven't revealed them yet.
The power of paint! It looks great Cassie - all your hard work was worth it!
Here, let me hold your camera so you can give it those two thumbs up! Amazing transformation ...
:)
Linda

Your hard work made a BIG difference! My favorites are the painted vanity and I love that you painted the trim too. Of course, the shower curtain is pretty awesome too.
A perfect example of what hard work, paint and vision can do to totally update a space without spending $$$!! I love the color and the modern vibe the shelf adds!
Wow Cassie, it really looks great! I love the art from your friend. Such a great print!
It looks great, Cassie! Love that smoky gray, and the shower curtain!
Oh my goodness your shower curtain is what made me love your blog at the beginning! I had forgotten that was yours! I remember thinking "Anyone with a shower curtain that cool would be awesome to hang out with!"
