Friday Guest: Ange from The Blooming Hydrangea

Happy Friday!  I have an awesome guest for you today!  I also want to invite you back to my blog later today (8 pm EST) for a special link party about what you want your blog to be (Check out the button in my sidebar).  So think about it, write a post, and share it!  In the meantime, check out my awesome, gorgeous, creative guest, Ange from The Blooming Hydrangea.  I have gotten to know Ange quite well recently, and I adore her!  Her openness, honesty, wit, and humor draw me in and I know I have found a true friend in her.  I mean, I've know the gal for just a couple months and already we are making "undercarriage" jokes.  Surely, we will be friends forever.  I am so excited to have the chance to meet her at Haven this June!!!   Recently,  Ange redid her son's room and it is amazing!  Check out his new reading nook...

Awesome, isn't it? Well, she is going to blow your mind today with the progress of her master bedroom.... take it away, Ange!

Good Morning Primitive & Proper lovers! I'm so excited to be here today sharing on what has become one of my favorite blogs ever. How can you not love Cassie? She has a great sense of humor, loves her children so much and I'm sure is a rock star of a mom, is the sweetest person who is always leaving the kindest comments on the blogs she follows and is so genuine and real! I can't wait to meet this girl at Haven so she can walk up the stairs with me because I won't take the elevator. Besides being an amazing person, she also has amazing taste when it comes to painting furniture and I am in love with the gold leaf nightstands she did recently!
Speaking of nightstands, today I wanted to share the evolution of our master bedroom with you. This past summer we moved from a 1937 Colonial style home into a newer two story home in a cookie cutter style neighborhood. My entire home is covered in every shade of beige paint that Sherwin Williams had to offer along with lots and lots of lovely ugly oak trim.
Our bedroom was a brownish purple color that at night reminded me of what perhaps purple baby poop would look like if you smeared it on the walls.

I decided in November that enough was enough and it was time to paint our bedroom, I couldn't sleep in a room with the purple/beige poop walls any longer.
In the last house we had more of a shabby chic feel going on and I was ready for a change and I'm sure my hubby was ready for a change as well.

When I suggested painting our bedroom navy blue he was so excited, I thought maybe we had won the lottery.  My color palette thoughts for the room were navy, gold and coral, with some geometric pattern maybe for the curtains and pillows.
We decided to find new furniture for our bedroom and after searching Craigslist, I found a brass head board and foot board for $40, along with two nightstands for $35.

The color on the wall is Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore and we both love it.  It doesn't look so hot with the oak trim but after I painted all the trim it was much much better. The paint and trim were done in November, along with painting some wide stripes in our closet and after that the bedroom project went on a bit of a hiatus.

In October Cutting Edge stencils wanted to send me a free stencil but I had a hard time deciding on which one and where I wanted to use it.  Finally in December I ordered a stencil.  Usually I like to play it safe but this time I went out on a limb and picked something that made me a bit nervous.  I'm so glad I took the chance and went bold.

After picking up some pillows from Target and TJ Maxx, I knew the nightstands needed to be painted.  The hubby wasn't too keen on his wood nightstands getting painted but I convinced him they would look much better if we did.  There were a few failed color attempts but finally I hit it out of the park with Rhubarb by Benjamin Moore and some Gold Leaf Rub n Buff for the hardware.

Now I just need to finish up the other half of the room where our free Craigslist dresser is sitting.  I am going to do a gallery wall of some sort, just need to be patient and wait to collect the right things.

I just love how our bedroom has come along and I've learned to take my time and let the room talk to me.   Here is a before and after, one more time!

Usually I try to rush and finish it, buying things I don't love just to make the room "complete."   I have found most of the items for our bedroom through Craigslist, Target Clearance or thrifting and usually some paint makes it perfect!  Thank you Cassie for letting me share the progress of our master bedroom.   If you ever need to get rid of those gold leaf night stands, you know I will take them off your hands.

I think your room looks stunning! I like to take my time and let a room evolve too. It usually makes for a visually interesting room, versus a cookie cutter, staged room. I think long skinny mirrore would look great behind the lamps on your nightstands!

A great piece of advice in taking your time to pull a room together Ange! Your MBR shows the benefits of that. I can't believe the deals you have found and how they fit perfectly in this well thought out design!

Your room looks amazing! Navy, coral and gold might be my new favorite color palette. Also love those stripes in your closet. I hadn't noticed them before. Your hardword and patience paid off in a gorgeous room. PS - what is it with husbands being weird about painting wood furniture?!!?

Gorgeous! I love the color palette as well. It is so hard to be patient and not just start grabbing up a bunch of stuff, kudos to you for your patience. It is really paying off, that is a bedroom worth waiting for!

Ange has done a beautiful job with her bedroom and a fun mix of colors! I love the night stand painted in that rhubarb color. I admire her patience. As they say good things come to those who wait! I popped over to her blog and what an adorable family. Beautiful kids. Wishing you Cassie and Ange a great weekend!
