The Dog Pee Snowball Effect

I shared with you a little over a week ago the tragedy that was the dog pee on my zebra rug.  I am still crying over it a little.  But you know what?  I took it as a sign that maybe I needed to change things up in the living room.  And thanks to our not-so-great last year's accountant and a great accountant this year who caught last year's errors (you got all that?), we had a little teensy bit extra from Uncle Sam that was owed to us last year.  So I took it before Chris could tell me not to.  Ha ha.  Just kidding.... I told him I was taking it.  Ok, we discussed it and I pouted until he agreed with me that we should get a new rug.  I decided to be a little thriftier, and also go a little bigger.  The couches sometimes slid before because all 4 legs were on the wood floor.  Here is the room before (picture form just before Thanksgiving)....

I found a rug on Overstock that I adored!  It is more vibrant and bold, a little bigger, and the cost was $250 for a 6x9 rug.  Not bad!  Here is the picture from their website...

Hand-hooked Miff Ivory/ Blue Wool Rug (6' x 9')

And here it is in my home and I love it even more in person!  This color my world challenge has me wanting to bump up the color in this house, so I am doing it!  There will be some more color coming into this room soon.

Here you can see the baby gate... which will stay there from now on even when we are home.  Darn dogs.

And you may have spied a little more color on the mantle.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays my neighbor comes over in the morning to work out with me.  She has 4 kids (one being a 5 month old) so time alone is precious.  Since it's Spring break, I invited her kids to all come Tuesday as well and stay here after we worked out to do a craft project.  We made these little egg carton birds I saw in Family Fun magazine, which Emmy gets in the mail (courtesy of Gramma and Papa).  Here are the birds my kiddos made, on the mantle.  Sawyer's are uniformly colored in red and blue, and Emmy's is more colorful of course!  I absolutely love the crooked googly eyes and beaks... they look like silly little birds!

And lest you think we would just get rid of the zebra rug, here it is in its new home.... the playroom!  I had planned on getting a new rug for in here, so I guess it's sort of win-win.  Apparently Go-go likes to color (The kids were playing when I snapped the picture).  And you can also spy our new playroom chairs here... $5 each at my old Goodwill.  I was in town a few weeks ago and stopped by and was glad I did!
Here you can see the faded spot. I have learned my lesson.  I will be buying spot shot.

I also wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to Nicole from Home for Hire.  I won a giveaway from her a few weeks ago, full of lots of goodies!  I just love Nicole's blog- she is just downright sweet and creative!  I am stealing this picture from her blog because I have since put some items away, but here is what I won....

And of course I love aqua!  I added the framed paper to my sideboard, as well as the lovely aqua book.  (I LOVE this book!)

I was so excited when my package of goodies arrived- Thank you, Nicole!

Hope you all have a fabulous Thursday!  I will be working out with my neighbor and then he kids are staying again to color Easter eggs with us.  Then I am off to the movies with my kiddos to see "Mirror, Mirror", which Emmy has been asking to see.  Hope you have a fun day as well!

The new rugs looks great, it seems to pull the room together more since it's now under the couches a bit. I love what you did with the old rug, it would have been a shame to get rid of it, still has life left for the kiddos! :)

Liking the new rug. It fits better. I've always heard that at least the front furniture legs should always be on a rug. And that aqua book you were given is super sweet. I am always on the lookout for anything with an aqua or turquoise color!
