Friday Guest: Julia from 551 East

Happy Friday!  Today is the last full day I get to spend with Ali.  We have had such a fun week and we are meeting another very special blog friend today!  Megan from Miss Madison's Charmed Life happens to be in my neck of the woods for a wedding this weekend, so we have plans to meet up today! So excited!

Anyhow, I am so happy to have a fabulous furniture maker over here today!  Julia from 551 East is adorable, sweet, and......ridonkulously talented!  Case in point....

Talent times a kajillion!!! You can visit her portfolio to see more, but this week she is sharing all sorts of fun chair projects!

Hi Primitive and Proper friends!

Before I start I just have to say OMG, I am guest posting on Cassie's blog today!!!

BAHHHH!!

Seriously, I love Cassie so much and I am so honored to be here.

Anyway...now that my blog crush is out in the open...I'm Julia from 551 EAST!

Over at my blog we've been celebrating Chair Week all week long.

I took on a massive reupholstering project where I reupholstered 4 chairs in 7 weeks.

(With only one accident from the staple gun. :))

I reupholstered a french arm chair.

A retro, burlap arm chair.

A black velvet, tufted wingback.

And two of these sweet bamboo chairs.

Before starting this massive project, I had never reupholstered anything before.

I'm still not sure why I decided to do them all at once, but it was a GREAT learning experience.

I've compiled all the best tutorials I could find, and used, into the ULTIMATE REUPHOLSTERING TUTORIAL GUIDE (read that in a booming voice) for YOU to have for your next upholstering project!

It's like cliff notes for reupholstering. :)

Obviously, there are TONS of amazing tutorials out there that aren't on this list, but this is a great list.

One of the biggest tips I could give you from my experience is remember that no two chairs are the same, and while tutorials are awesome, don't be afraid to try a new idea or version that you think of.

I don't think I can emphasize enough how important going with the flow is with reupholstering.

I mean you're holding a loaded staple gun 90% of the time...you gotta keep your cool. :)

So here is the ULTIMATE REUPHOLSTERING TUTORIAL GUIDE and I hope it helps you!

Thank you to Cassie and to each of you for reading!

Julie is officially my new BFF (she doesn't know that though)!

With her directions, maybe the frayed chair I am sitting on right now could become fabulous! My butt thanks you Julie!

Umm, can I just say: "Julia? Will you come to my house next?" (It's okay. I heard you shake your head "no".) But, seriously...wow. WOW! All chairs of gorgeousness. That is one task I've never jumped on...but never say never.

And I do love a good power tool.

Staple guns count as power tools. Right?

I love Julia! She is one of my favorite bloggers. I seriously cannot believe she got all of these projects done in 7 weeks. 7 weeks for one would be a miracle for me. I am so excited she included all these amazing tutorials in one place. I will definitely be using these as I have a few upholstery projects right around my home.

Hope you have a wonderful long weekend! -K
