POWW 92

Happy POWW!
So, a few months ago I shared this dresser redo....

It had such pretty wood that I wanted to save it, at least some of it.  Well, it has sat and sat in my garage with no one interested.  And this dresser is BIG and HEAVY, too big and too heavy to sit there wasting space.  So I decided that it was time to give it a beachier, prettier look.

I sanded the entire piece, and then used my DIY chalk paint in a soft aqua.  I also painted the knobs with it, distressed it, and waxed it.  Now it has a much softer appeal!  Chris helped me move it into the barn last week, so it will be available at this weekend's sale!

It started to rain while I was taking pictures. This next photo shows that the wax does its job- see the rain just beading up? :)

Now let's see your latest and greatest furniture projects!

ohhhh I LOVE the new color! So fresh and springy! I too have a piece that I've had absolutely NO interest from anyone, so I might have to give in and repaint it. I hate when that happens!

Wow Cassie! What a beautiful transformation. You'll get some interest in that dresser now. Nice job. Thanks for hosting, Dee from My Painted Stuff

I'm so sad for the striped dresser, nobody to love him! Love the makeover :)

I like both versions - the wood grain was very pretty, but I really like this soft sea blue too! Good luck - hope it sells!

Wow, that doesn't even look like the same piece! Love the color, and those cute little keyholes that were not even noticeable before!

I never noticed your squirrel with a nut thing until today. LOL! Funny! Love the new look of the dresser...but I loved the stripes too. I understand needing to move those big pieces out for sure.

I like both looks, but this one is more uniform, I'm sure it will sell fast! I'll be at the Barn on Friday to check everything out! I'm taking a day off so I'm going to check out all the sales that day!

Gwen said...

That's too bad that it didn't sell... it was awesome and in the right room it would have made a powerful statement...

I bet it will, now, though. It's pretty in a different way. You took a chance and I totally admire you for that. And the fact that you are willing to re-do it says a lot about your willingness to adjust when circumstances dictate it.

Good Luck at the sale! I hope it goes really well!!!

Very pretty! The piece looks completely different now. I have yet to try chalk paint, but am very curious. Where do you find yours?

Suzy www.savedbysuzy.blogspot.com said...

The grain on that wood is so pretty, but I bet the blue will have a wider appeal. You know how I feel about blue too...it can do no wrong :)

I have no latest or greatest to link, well unless you count my upcoming post, but seems like putting the cart before the horse to link that.

And I like the beachier look.

Your first paint scheme looked a little British Colonial, which I love. However, I may be the only one. The beachy scheme will sell quickly!

Thanks for hosting Cassie! I loved the original on that piece, and it had to be tough to sand it all off! Sometimes it take that though to hit the "broader market". Bet it sells first this weekend because it looks so pretty in blue too!

Crys Green said...

I love it! Sometimes those pieces with wood showing just don't sell, what a shame though. The before was amazing! I do love that aqua color and you can really see the bones on that dresser now. She has good bones, heh. Thanks for hosting Cassie!

Cassie, I'd also love to know what recipe you use to make your chalk paint. I've seen a bunch and want to do it but havn't commited to a specific recipe yet.
