Special Guest: Erin from His & Hers

Happy Wednesday!  I am so excited to have a special guest today, Erin from His & Hers.  If you have never been to Erin's blog you need to head over.  Not only is she full of great ideas and style, but her wit and humor will keep you laughing and reading!

Case in point, her blog has an adorable furry mascot.  I am not a cat person, but Erin's pictures of her cat, Zoe, always make me giggle.

Ha ha!  Dontcha love it!
And I spy a kitty in her super stylish bathroom....

I want that shower curtain!  Love it.  Anyhow, Erin is here today to share with you all the progress she has made (with her husband's help, of course!) on their master bedroom.

Hey everyone! I'm Erin from His & Hers, and I'm excited to be guest posting here today. Thanks, Cassie, for inviting me! :)

A little explanation of my blog title: my husband and I don’t write the blog together. You’ll only hear from me. But the content of my blog would not be entirely possible without both of us. Rick knows things like what a reciprocating saw does and how to run electric. I’d burn the house down.

DSC_1438Our motto is: Her brain-ish. His brawn-ish. It works. Ish.

One of the projects we’ve jointly tackled in our 100+ year old home is our master bedroom, which had a serious bird problem.

Fortunately, out of the 50+ items of bird paraphernalia in the vicinity of our master bedroom, we only found one that was real. And it was really dead. Which may or may not be an improvement over the stenciled variety.

In our quest to eradicate the birds once and for all and make a grown-up retreat for ourselves, we’ve gone the do-it-yourself route. For instance, our nightstand is a mash-up of a curbside cabinet and an old TV table top. The lamp is also a thrift store makeover.

We and/or my husband also built the over-sized storage ottoman that resides at the foot of the bed. It houses our dirty laundry and occasionally our cats.

Another of my favorite features is the gallery wall that is displayed next to our bed. The wall it hangs on used to be inside a closet. We knocked out the closet because it made for an awkwardly L-shaped room, and because we were bored and smashing things with hammers seemed like a good idea at the time.

You all know Cassie is the furniture painting guru, and she graciously helped me out via email with a wipe-on poly crisis as I gave this formerly black and grubby desk a two-tone, red-knobbed makeover.

Since taking the above photo, I’ve been using that desk as a vanity, topping it with a birdcage for displaying my earrings.

Because, after all, the bedroom wouldn’t be complete without an avian throwback. It’s my way of paying homage to the birdhouses of yore. Or something like that.

Come by my blog to see more of our remodeling process—I’d love to meet you! Today is also the first-ever “Random Acts of Craftiness” link party and challenge, so come by and see what participants have done creating something out of game pieces! And thanks again, Cassie, for having me. :)

You'd never know that was the same space! Love the chandie - it adds so much to the room. And hanging earrings on the bird cage is a great idea!

So of course this post is no less amusing than her regular stuff...and by regular I just mean her usual stuff. Anyone who knows Erin knows she is way above and beyond "regular". Like a bird.

Yes, a bird reference is appropriate here.

Love Erin. Great guest post. :)

I had almost forgotten how corny I was until I saw that movie poster. Thanks for the reminder, Cassie. ;)

And thanks for having me crash your blog!!

How fun! I can't imagine what the previous owner was thinking with the bird thing everywhere. I am hard pressed to pick just one thing I love, all the little items in this room are so wonderful. I especially love the birdcage holding the earings. You have some really cute earings!
