Happy New Year! (A New Year's Party, and what 2013 holds for this blog)

Happy New Year!!!!  Wow, it's been 2 weeks since my last post, and I have to admit, I have had a really hard time getting myself together to write again.  I just haven't wanted to.... I have enjoyed spending time with my family including a wonderful Christmas, a trip to see Shrek the Halls Ice, watching my kids play in the snow, and hosting a family friendly New Year's party (complete with photo booth) for some of our local friends (to ensure a safe and happy time).  It's all been low stress and fun, and I have felt so happy with my life- full, content.  It's been two weeks full of simple things- cookie baking, sledding, hot cocoa, decorating graham cracker houses, wine tasting with friends, and self reflection.  It's been two weeks that have made it really hard for me to pick up again and type again.  I know in my heart I would miss you all too much to just stop blogging and lose that connection, but I also know in my heart that some things need to change.

So that being said, what's in store here at Primitive and Proper for 2013?  I can't really say, but here are some thoughts....

1. I am not setting any goals as far as the house goes.  Things will change, walls will be painted, but I don't know what walls, or what changes.... and that's ok.  It's not really all that important in the grand scheme of life, now is it?

2. I do know that I need to commit to actually doing more good.  This blog for the most part is a happy place... a source of positive energy, but energy isn't enough.  When children are being shot in their own schools, it's time to change things and be an active positive member of society.  I have not yet figured out how I will use the blog to do so, but I am open to suggestions.  In the words of the genius, Albert Einstein, "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything."  I still can't get the events of Newtown out of my head, and I hope I never do.... I want to always remember those children as a constant reminder that we should be making changes.  And we can.  Change can be put into place at any time, with just a small action, causing millions of small reactions.

3. This one is going to probably cause me to lose some of you as followers, but I am OK with that because I need to do what's best for me.  The POWW link party will be no longer.   I hope you all understand, and I thank you for the last couple years of sharing with me.

That's really all I can say at the moment about the blog... I will keep blogging, but I need to SIMPLIFY.

Now, all that being said, I promised you a New Year's Party recap.  First, here is a look at the party decor....

I went with silver, gold, aqua, and pink as the main colors as you can see on the mantle.  I made a banner with gold glitter cardstock, and hung it using twine and silver glitter mini clothespins.  I also hung an aqua bead garland and swagged it a few times.  I added some fun ornaments on branches and candlesticks, and my Anthro apothecary jars in a countdown fashion.

In the dining room I used a "bonjour" banner i had on hand in the right colors, and added a pink glitter "2013" that I cut out of cardstock below it.... Bonjour 2013!

The table I covered with gold wrapping paper, silver sequins, mercury glass.  I also had guests write their resolutions on the paper.
 Here is my own....

I used my gorgeous pom pom wreath from my bestie (she made it for me because she loves me!) as the 0 in 2013.

And I hung some aqua beads from the light fixture.

And of course, we had a 2013 kissing ball I made with styrofoam and sequins.

And this is what greeted guests at the door....

The highlight of the party was a "photo booth" I created in a corner of the dining room complete with props....
I used a tinsel doorway hanger I found at hobby lobby and a tinsel garland which I just taped up with painters tape so I wouldn't damage the walls.

I purchased and made props, and we all had fun getting our pictures taken in the booth!
That would be me with the giant glasses....

Me and Chris, I think... I mean, he is wearing a mask.  I hope it was Chris.

Chris and Emmy....

Me and my friend, Kerry.

We all had a blast and are pretty sure it's going to be an annual event... the damage wasn't too bad. ;)

Happy New Year!  Thank you for sticking with me!  Even though this blog may be changing a little, I am really excited about what the 2013 holds!

Happy New Year Cassie! I am all for living one day at a time. Setting goals is great but our lives shouldn't be one giant checklist. I'm tired of trying to keep track of what I've done, what hasn't been done and OMG it is NEVER going to get done!

"Just do you."

That's my motto for the new year :)

BTW love all your party decor, looks like you all had a blast!

Happy New Year Cassie!! I think it's great that you are choosing to simplify this year!

I want to be more efficient in my blogging. I feel like I could get twice as much done online if I didn't have so many distractions. The more I accomplish, the less time I should have to spend on the computer.....or at least that is how it all plays out in my head! lol!

Your photo booth looks like so much fun!! The pics are great!

Happy New Year! I might steal the photo booth idea for Lexie's birthday! I can't stop thinking about the little ones from CT either. Last night, we were laying in bed with Alexis and I just couldn't stop thinking about those poor families who didn't have their little ones to snuggle with. Hope you have a wonderful 2013!

Cassie, a very happy new year! Looks like your party was a blast and I love your idea of having everyone write down their resolutsions on the tablecloth; also the photo booth - so creative! I agree 100% with Albert Einstein and echo your sentiments entirely.

Hi Cassie,
I totally agree - ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and keeping priorities is a must. Saying no to some things is good. Taking breaks is good. Trying new things is good. This is your life, and you are the one who gets to decide how you spend it! Sounds like you're off to a good start.
Blessings,
Revi

I love your Bonjour 2012 banner. So cute! LOL on the some walls will get painted. Sound like me! I know I'll do something, just not sure what??? haha

The shooting was horrific, and yes, we do need some sort of changes implemented to protect our children.

Wishing you a Happy New year!

When you know what's right and you are exactly where you feel you are supposed to be, everything is ok. Perspective can be jolting as I spent the past couple years going through that stepping back process. I'm glad that you aren't totally stepping away though!!! Thanks for all you do and Happy New Year!

Hi Cassie and Happy New Year.

It sounds like you're making changes that work for you and that's great. If you loose followers so be it, followers only after a linky party can finds loads out there, but the warm person, great photos and beautiful projects are what matters to this follower!

I have to admit that I am going to miss POWW. Your readers are so authentic and genuine, and I used to love the traffic that came from your site because your readers always shared the love. But, with that said, I totally get it! Life can become a little crazy and in the end it's keeping yourself sane that is important. People change with time, so it's only fitting that blogs do too. Wishing you all the best in 2013.

I'm 100% with you about the simplifying! I have felt so unmotivated lately and it's because I allowed home stuff and the blog to become a job and not a hobby. I want to get back to the hobby.
