If you are hopping over from Perfectly Imperfect, glad you are here! (And in case you missed it, hop on over to make sure you get all of the details on Shaunna's adorable project, pictured below!)
I am not much of a 4th of July Patriotic decorator, so I honestly had NO idea what I would do for my project, but this one sort of just fell into my lap!
I picked up this adorable white drop leaf table, and loved it, but the white paint job was poorly done. I could see layers of blue and green peeking through, so I decided to just distress it to smooth out the bad paint job and also bring out more of the underneath layers.
In my garage I had a pair of bentwood chairs that I thought would be a perfect match for this table. I happened to paint them in one of my absolute favorite General Finishes colors, Coastal Blue; these were distressed as well and sealed with General Finishes satin finishing wax.
I placed the chairs with the table to take photos, and BAM it hit me! I could create a little 4th of July table set for two- I just needed some accessories, like, of course, red flowers.
To create this tablescape, I added a red potted geranium (which I happened to have on hand as it was a teacher gift yet to be given!), and my blue and white Ikea and West Elm dishes. I added my grandmother's crystal goblets. I wrapped silverware in a blue napkin and tied it with red and white bakers twine. This tablescape was created using things I already had on hand, so it was virtually free!
The red and white bakers twine is a simple way to add red and white stripes.

These are our every day dishes. Conveniently, my color wheel is essentially various shades of blue, so the dishes I had were perfect for this set up.
Here you can see the various blues and greens peeking through from the white table.
The chairs were lightly distressed to highlight their details.
Now I just need to wait for an evening alone with Chris.... and we can have our very own fireworks. Bow chicka bow bow. Of course we all know what really happens when we get an evening alone, without kids.... it's not quite fireworks..... instead, we typically opt for pj's and a 9 pm bedtime.
But this year the kids are headed to my parents for the 4th of July, and I am holding out hope... I've got my red nail polish, my white lacy flowing shirt, and my skinny jeans ready just in case.

CUTE! I may have to do something festive--haven't done anything festive since Christmas! (I'm old. That's my excuse for everything.) So glad you have your skinny jeans ready, but where's you red lipstick??
ReplyDeleteCassie that table is so adorbs! Love the blue peeking through, I'm so glad you didn't paint over that patina. Your dishes are sooooo.oooo.oooo pretty. I clearly needs some blue & white to mix into my white everyday-ware. And the blue napkins with baker's twine? Perfection for the 4th of July. I am so stealing that fab idea from you - thank you! :)
